Music by Andrew Lloyd Webber

Lyrics by Tim Rice

The story of The Life and Death of Jesus of Nazareth is probably the best known story of all time. To some people a story is all it is, to be placed along side Fairy tales, to others His life is a basis for unrivalled religious faith. What is undeniable however, is that Jesus was a real historical character chronicled not only in the Bible but also Jewish and Roman history. "Jesus Christ Superstar" charts the last few days of Jesus' life but concentrates more on the emotions that may have been felt by him, his followers and opponents. Some may suggest that this does not accurately follow the Bible story, however many more emotions must have been felt and words spoken than are written in the four Gospels. Imagine if you will the doubt and confusion felt by Judas, unsure of where Jesus is leading and what his teachings mean. The fear of change and ruin felt by the Priests, the love and also uncertainty of Mary Magdalene, the pity and despair yet ruthlessness of Pontius Pilate, the distain and derision of King Herod, and of course Jesus himself with his love and compassion for his followers, the sick and poor, his dismissal of the priests, anger at the money lenders, stubbornness and determination in front of Pilate and his heart rending doubt and questioning of God in Gethsemane. "Superstar" depicts all of the above in this outstanding Rock Musical.
